can anyone tell me if i can use a black top engine loom in my red top sr 20
currently using a black top brain and a half melted loom but my car has been missing badly when it gets hot its fine untill i have about 5 laps done. so very hard to find the problem...
only started this since i fixed the loom after it melted.. the wires that melted was moastly the wires for coil packs and when the loom melted it wrecked the brain.. so i am using a black top ecu... any help would be great

Could it be the ECU? As there are many different versions/numbers.

The 2nd link give ECU numbers. Hope this helps a wee bit as I had fun and games trying to return to stock ECU from my Apexi unit. I gave up in the end.

I think I still have an E5 and a 62 ecu some where?

thanks man will check that out old ecu was 62 red top and new one e5 black top

could be the ecu but not sure as i changed ecu at the same time the loom melted... have a mines ecu comin soon but dont want to put it in untill i change the loom.
seamie has a black top loom so need to know if it will work in red top..

Could be the coilpack loom!!!
if its a redtop in a 180 im nearly sure a blacktop 180sx loom will do the job once they both either have/or dont have vvi vvt or whatever they call it:ct:

have changed the coil pack loom.. its doesnt have vvt but i thought all black topd had vvti will just have to try black top loom and see lol. nissan list about 5 looms so they wer no help lol

Sounds like the road I have gone down, E5 ECU should be for the non-VVT engine so I was told.

yeah e5 and 62 should do the same job mel
that leaves the engine loom fingers crossed the black top loom will do.
so if anyone knows if the black top loom will do, let me know

now the red top s13 silvia loom is the same as a 93-95 zenki 180sx black top(none vvt) with normal haeting/air con, looms and ecu's are interchangeable with no problems but a loom from a 95-98 180sx with digital climate control is diffrant there are 3 wires diffrant in the ecu connector so it will not work and any loom from an s14 will not work on a non vvt based engine with out modifying to the wireing

just have to lift it and fire it in along with the new ecu fingers crossed :nervous:

car going well now.. well tested in rabs silo thanks rab..
it was the engine loom, mines ecu in 2 and seems to be running perfect..
well it lived through a,
test from robbie b
a test from muldrew
and a test from chris b
it must be bullet proof
oh and i messed about for a while 2
we torchered her for about an hour and she didnt miss a beat so roll on july

lol get the pictures of your manafold and turbo up....car seems to be going well, did you leave ur keys with robbie if so then you will know for sure if she will stick abuse by the time uve finished work tonight lol

its def time for all you lot to buy twin cams and learn how to diff!

you have about 3-4 days for after that its getting filled with grass, i think he should hold a test day on sat and provide a complementary bbq and beverages of the alcholic variety!

oh michaels car is mad on for a bit of testing everyone can use it lol
